MANIFESTATIONS AND COMPLICATIONS OF ROTAVIRUS-POSITIVE GASTROENTERITIS AND ROTAVIRUS-NEGATIVE GASTROENTERITIS IN PRESCHOOL CHILDREN

Background. The cumulative annual statistics of rotavirus-associated gastroenteritis are about 25 million outpatient visits, 2 hospitalizations, and 180,000–450,000 deaths in children under 5 years age.
 Aim: To analyze the manifestations complications rotavirus compared with non-rotavirus UK children.
 Materials methods. A retrospective hospital-based case-control study was conducted at three sites East London, Great Britain. Cases were aged 1 month to 16 who diagnosed acute between June 1, 2011, December 31, 2013, positive for by PCR (polymerase chain reaction) on stool virology. They age, gender referral a control group rotavirus-negative gastroenteritis.
 Results. Data collected from 116 (50 cases 66 controls). Children more likely have metabolic acidosis (pH 7.30 vs. 7.37) fever (74% 46%) require hospitalization gastroenteritis. (93% 73%). Neurological most common extraintestinal manifestations, but did not differ significantly rotavirus-positive (RPG) (RNG) (24% 15%, respectively). Encephalopathy occurred only infection.
 Conclusion. Therefore, is an important cause morbidity mortality preschool children. Seizures milder neurologic signs associated multiple pathogens, encephalopathy (RPG). Timely vaccination against can prevent serious consequences.
